SUMMARY

The results of elections to 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan will be declared on Monday, with counting beginning at 8 am across the state. The results will determine the fate of 38,889 candidates and set the stage for the formation of governing boards in 10 Municipal Corporations, 47 Municipal Councils and 252 Municipalities.

Polling was conducted in two phases on September 9 and 11, with Rajasthan recording a voter turnout of 73.56%, more than three percentage points higher than the turnout in the previous urban local body elections. The BJP fielded 9,290 candidates and the Congress 9,027, while 18,732 Independents contested the elections. The Rashtriya Loktantrik Party fielded 948 candidates, followed by the Aam Aadmi Party with 311, BSP with 298, CPI(M) with 185 and Bharat Adivasi Party with 98.

The results will be followed by negotiations over the formation of governing boards. Independent councillors and members of smaller parties could become important in urban local bodies where the BJP or Congress fails to secure a majority.

The elections are also a test for the BJP and Congress in urban Rajasthan. The BJP, currently in power in the state, has claimed it will form boards in more than 200 urban local bodies, while the Congress has expressed confidence in its performance.

For the first time in Rajasthan, results for all 309 urban local bodies are being declared simultaneously under the 'One State-One Election' model. Previously, urban local body elections were conducted in separate phases.

The previous election cycle, held between 2019 and 2021 when Congress was in power, covered 196 urban local bodies. Congress won 3,036 of the 7,500 wards contested, while BJP won 2,676. Congress eventually formed boards in 125 bodies and BJP in 64, highlighting the importance of post-poll negotiations in determining control.

Rajasthan Local Body Election Results: Congress wins Jhalawar Municipal Council poll in BJP bastion

The Congress on Monday registered a decisive victory in the Jhalawar Municipal Council, winning 18 of its 25 wards in a region considered a political stronghold of former Rajasthan chief minister and senior BJP leader Vasundhara Raje.

The BJP, however, secured a majority in the Jhalrapatan municipality, winning 11 of its 20 wards.

BJP national vice president Vasundhara Raje is the sitting BJP MLA from the Jhalrapatan assembly constituency in Jhalawar district.

Jhalawar district has a total of eight urban local bodies.

In the Jhalawar Municipal Council, the Congress won 18 wards, while the BJP secured seven, giving the opposition party a comfortable majority in the 25-member civic body.

In Jhalrapatan municipality, the BJP won 11 of the 20 wards, crossing the majority mark. The Congress won six seats, while Independents secured three.

The results were part of elections to 309 urban local bodies across Rajasthan.

Jodhpur Municipal Corporation Election Results: Voting machine fails to display results at booth 338

District collector and district magistrate of Jodhpur, Alok Ranjan, said, "The counting for the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation was scheduled to take place here. In addition, the counting for six other urban local bodies was also being conducted. There were a total of 729 polling booths, and results have been generated for almost all of them. However, at one particular booth, Booth No. 338 in Ward 50, the voting machine failed to display any results...The ballot engineer subsequently submitted a certified report stating that the machine was unable to generate the results. Following this, the Returning Officers (ROs) informed the Election Commission in writing that the results from this machine could not be obtained and sought further instructions..."

Rajasthan Local Body Election Results Live: BJP leads with 63 wins, Congress secures 44 wards out of 120 declared

The BJP has so far won 63 wards, while the Congress has secured victory in 44 wards as results for 120 of the 150 wards of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation were declared on Monday under the Urban Local Body General Elections-2026.

According to the Jaipur District Administration, counting of votes for all 150 wards is underway.

Other parties and candidates have won 13 wards in the results declared so far. Final results for the remaining wards are awaited as counting continues.

Amid the counting, Congress leaders met Jaipur District Collector over alleged discrepancies in the election results. Rajasthan Congress Legislative Party Chief Whip Rafeek Khan said the party had raised concerns over information being circulated on social media and demanded verification wherever discrepancies were found.

“In the election of those councillors, wrong things are being shown on social media, and the truth is that we are winning. So we have met the Collector regarding those things and have said that wherever there will be counting, their certificates will be given to them and if there is any difference in it... check it again and tell us,” Khan said.

“We will not tolerate any scam, and we will fight for our rights,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra thanked voters across the state for their mandate and credited the BJP government with its development and governance initiatives.

“Heartfelt thanks to crores of voters of the state who, under the leadership of the chief minister, for the 31 months of the state government, for the development of the state, for the solution of problems, for burning issues, be it the problem of water, electricity, law and order and whether it is the matter of the future of lakhs of youth...” Kharra said.

Rajasthan Local Body Election Results: BJP candidate gets 1 vote

BJP candidate Kailashchand received just one vote in Rajasthan's urban local body elections, the results of which were announced on Monday, despite contesting the polls from Ward 13 of Parbatsar municipality in Didwana-Kuchaman district.

According to the State Election Commission website, Congress candidate Hina Khanam won the ward with 376 votes, while Independent candidate Rashid Khan secured 195 votes. Kailashchand finished with just one vote.

Kailashchand told PTI that he was a voter of Ward 12, but the BJP fielded him from the neighbouring Ward 13.

"I got one vote. My vote is in Ward 12. I was fielded from Ward 13. Someone from that ward has voted for me," he said.

Parbatsar municipality has 25 wards. The Congress won 13 wards, securing a simple majority, while the BJP won 12.

Kailashchand's result stood out as counting was underway for 309 urban local bodies across Rajasthan, where more than 10,000 councillor posts were at stake.

Rajasthan Local Body Election Results Live Updates:: Cong's Dostara claims BJP using pressure tactics amid counting

Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra on Monday accused the ruling BJP of misusing government machinery and police to influence the outcome of the urban local body elections, as counting of votes was underway across the state.

Dotasra claimed that the Congress was leading in most areas and alleged that the BJP was trying to influence the results after anticipating defeat.

"Reports are coming in from different parts of the state indicating that under pressure, there are attempts to alter results in closely contested seats and to intimidate Independent and Congress councillors to switch allegiance to the BJP," he stated.

The Congress leader further alleged that the misuse of police resources to facilitate the formation of BJP boards in urban local bodies poses a serious threat to democracy.

"All such attempts must stop immediately. The police and district administration should ensure impartiality. Otherwise, accountability will be fixed for every officer who plays with the people's mandate," Dotasra said.

He also urged Congress workers to remain vigilant and closely monitor developments related to the election results.

"We will not allow democracy to bow before the pressure of those in power," he said.

There was no immediate response from the BJP or the state government to the allegations.

Rajasthan Local Body Election Results Live Updates: Congress won 37, BJP 32, and Independents 11 (Ajmer Municipal Corporation)

The ruling BJP increased its lead over the Congress in the Rajasthan urban local body elections on Monday, winning 3,587 wards against the opposition party's 3,050 as results for more than 8,700 wards were declared.

Verdict in key municipal corporations presented a mixed picture.

The BJP secured a clear majority in the 80-member Udaipur Municipal Corporation by winning 53 wards. The Congress won 23, Independents three, and the CPI(M) one.

The Congress emerged victorious in Ajmer and Pali.

Bharatpur threw up an anomalous picture as Independents won or led in 36 of its 65 wards, compared to the BJP's 20 and Congress's seven. The BSP and RLP won one each.

Bharatpur is Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma's hometown.

In Ajmer, of its 80 wards, Congress won 37, BJP 32, and Independents 11.

In the 65-ward Pali Nagar Nigam, Congress won 29, while BJP won 21 and Independents won 15.

Pali is the hometown of BJP state president Madan Rathore.

Independents put up a strong performance across the state, winning 2,024 wards, emerging as a potentially decisive force in several urban bodies.

Of the 10,244 wards for which counting was held, results for 8,787 were declared till 2.15 pm.

In all, the BJP won 3,587 wards, Congress 3,050, Independents 2,024, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) 56, CPI(M) 37, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) 15, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) 10 and Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) eight.

Rajasthan Election Results Live: ‘We will do a lot of development’, Congress’ Gurjar after Sanganer ward win

Congress candidate Manmohan Gurjar won Ward 51 of Sanganer in the Jaipur municipal elections, defeating his rival by around 1,700-1,800 votes.

Speaking after his victory, Gurjar said he would focus on development work in Sanganer and described the result as a victory for the people.

"We won by approximately 1,700-1,800 votes on our party symbol. We will do a lot of development in Sanganer. This is a victory for our people," he said.

Gurjar also said he would approach Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who represents Sanganer, to push for development work in the area.

"CM Bhajan Lal Sharma is from Sanganer and is like a brother to us. Though development work faced obstacles, we will speak with him to revive and redevelop Sanganer," Gurjar said.

Counting of votes for councillor posts in 309 urban local bodies across Rajasthan began on Monday under tight security, officials said.

Votes are being counted at designated centres across the state, with security personnel deployed in and around the premises. Only authorised persons are being allowed to enter the counting centres, officials said.

The elections, considered an important test for the ruling BJP and opposition Congress ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls, were conducted in two phases on September 9 and 11.

A total of 10,245 councillors will be elected across 309 urban local bodies, including 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils and 248 municipalities.

More than 1.44 crore voters were eligible to cast their ballots in the civic elections.

In the first phase, polling was held across 162 urban local bodies on September 9, recording a voter turnout of 76.42 per cent. The remaining 147 urban local bodies voted on September 11, with a turnout of 70.68 per cent.

The BJP and Congress mounted an intense campaign for the civic polls, while Independents and candidates from other parties also contested in several urban local bodies.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan Assembly Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, BJP state president Madan Rathore and Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra were among the prominent leaders who campaigned for their parties.

The civic polls assume political importance as the results will decide control of urban local bodies across Rajasthan and offer an indication of the urban electorate's mood nearly three years after the 2023 Assembly elections.

In the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, the largest civic body in the current elections, votes are being counted for 150 wards. The civic body has more than 24 lakh electors.

Once the councillor results are announced, the process of constituting the urban local bodies will proceed with the election of their heads.

Mayors and chairpersons will be elected on September 21, followed by elections for deputy mayors, deputy chairpersons and municipal vice-presidents on September 22.
