Rajasthan targets 60 new CNG stations by December, pushes DPNG expansion

The state has asked CGD entities to accelerate CNG and PNG network rollout, with 40,000 households added to DPNG in three-and-a-half months.

Rajasthan has set a target to commission 60 new compressed natural gas (CNG) stations during the current financial year, with the state government asking City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities to work toward achieving the target by December.

Chief Secretary V Srinivas, while reviewing the expansion of the domestic natural gas network in the state, directed CGD entities to prioritise Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) connections in areas where basic infrastructure for supplying piped natural gas is already in place.

The state has connected 40,000 new households with DPNG connections in three and a half months, according to the government. More than 30,000 households were connected within three months, Special Secretary, Mines, Namrata Vrishni said.

CGD entities and oil marketing companies have been asked to coordinate to facilitate the shift from LPG to DPNG. The Food and Civil Supplies Department has also been directed to coordinate with CGD entities at the district level to facilitate DPNG connections.

The government has directed that government residences be connected with DPNG facilities. The state is also focusing on providing PNG connections to industrial and commercial establishments.

Rajasthan State Gas Managing Director Vinay Patni said 13 CGD entities are developing basic infrastructure across 17 geographical areas in the state. These entities provide DPNG, industrial and commercial PNG connections, and CNG facilities.

During the current financial year, Patni said 23 new CNG stations, 99 industrial connections and 314 commercial PNG connections have been provided.

Officials from the Petroleum Department, Rajasthan State Gas, the General Administration Department, the Finance Department, the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, and CGD entities attended the meeting.
