Rajasthan board to hold Class 10 exams twice a year from 2026-27

RBSE will conduct Class 10 board exams twice a year from the 2026-27 session. The change replaces supplementary exams and gives students another chance within the same academic year.

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) will start conducting Class 10 board exams twice a year from the 2026-27 academic session. The move, according to RBSE, is aimed at reducing examination pressure and giving students an additional opportunity to improve their performance.

Under the new system, the first examination will be compulsory for all Class 10 students. It is expected to be conducted in February-March 2027. Students who qualify in the first examination will then have the option of appearing for a second examination, expected in May-June, to improve their marks.

Students who pass the main examination will be allowed to appear for the second examination to improve their marks in up to three subjects. The final result will be prepared by considering the higher marks obtained in each subject across the two examinations. For example, if a student scores 60 marks in a subject in the first examination and 70 in the second, the final result will reflect 70 marks.

The second examination will also provide an opportunity to students who do not meet the passing criteria in up to two subjects. Students who score below the minimum qualifying mark of 33 per cent in up to two subjects, or are absent in one subject and score below 33% in another, will be eligible under the Essential Improvement category.

RBSE CLASS 10 EXAMS: NO SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMS

The existing supplementary examination system will be discontinued and replaced by the second examination.

Students seeking improvement will have to appear in the same subjects for which they apply and will not be permitted to change subjects. The second examination will follow the Class 10 syllabus, with students' existing internal assessment and practical marks carried forward.

However, students who fail in three or more subjects will not be eligible for the second examination and will have to appear for all subjects again in the following academic year. Eligible students who need to improve their results will therefore have a chance to do so without waiting for another academic session.

The reform is expected to give Class 10 students greater flexibility while reducing the pressure associated with a single high-stakes board examination.
